Candy Corn Clouser

This fly is very popular for fly fishing the surf in Southern California.  At a recent One Surf Fly tournament held in Huntington Beach, CA this fly caught the second most number of fish winning the user and tyer (yours truly) a nice prize in the tournament.

Hot Tip: When tying this fly, tie it very sparsely, you want it to get down to the fish quickly.

Listed below are the materials needed to create the winning Clouser fly:

Mustad 34011 #4, 6 or 8 stainless steel, or saltwater hook of choice; Painted lead eyes or other of your choice; Krystal Flash in hot yellow pearl; Super hair, Unique hair, Craft fur, Deer hair or hair of your choice in yellow, white and fire orange (use colors that work in your area, these work in So. Cal. surf); and white thread.

Hair, Yellow

Hair, White

Hair, Orange

Thread, White

Step-by-Step instructions:

1. Start thread at eye and wrap 3/4 of the shank then return 3/4 of the way back to the eye.

Step-1-Kandy-Korn
2. Tie in yellow hair with 2-3 strands of Krystal flash, and then tie in white hair with 2-3 strands of Krystal flash, wrap   thread back towards hook bend to the end of the base layer of thread,return thread to point where hair is tied in. Trim hair in front of thread.

Step-2-Kandy-Korn
3. Tie in the eyes at this point and add a drop or super glue or what ever you use.

Step-3-Kandy-Korn

4. Turn your hook over and tie in the orange hair in front of the eyes just behind the hook eye.  Tie a neat head, whip finish and finish the head with super glue or what ever you usually use.

5. Tie one on and go fishing.

    Reading this reminds me of my previous room mate. That guy was one of the smartest men I know, but he was a little too original for my tastes though. Anyways I enjoyed reading this, thanks. Will give me something to argue about when I see him.
